For this week’s Fitness Friday, let’s look at some exercise accessories that can help you burn those Thanksgiving calories. They’re simple, but they will certainly intensify your routine to make it more efficient.
Exercise accessories for a better burn
This hollow, circular prop is used by yogis, runners, and athletes. It is very versatile, offering a deeper stretch which reaches hard-to-reach muscles. It also provides support for more difficult yoga poses.
Weighted vests are a great way to add resistant to your workouts, hands-free. Whether you are out for a run, doing calisthenics, or weight lifting, a weighted vest will give your body a better workout.
Perhaps the most common of exercise accessories, dumbbells can be used for almost everything. They add resistance to your cardio or strength training routines. They come in various weights, which you can increase as you grow stronger.
For hands-free resistance, ankle and wrist weights are your choice. Ankle weights will help you tone your legs better and improve core strength. As for wrist weights, studies have shown that “the use of 1- to 3-pound (450 to 1350 g) weights can increase heart rate by five to 10 beats per minute and oxygen consumption (as well as caloric expenditure) by about 5 to 15% compared to performing the same activity without weights.”
Portable yet effective, these exercise accessories are. If you want to increase the intensity of your workouts in a small way, try adding one – or more – of the accessories.
