There is no better time than now to give yourself some loving. Pre-COVID times, you might have been too caught up in your busyness that you might not have been paying enough attention to self-care. Sure, you probably went to the salon to get your hair and nails done once in a while. You may even have gotten regular massages. But self-care is more than that. It’s also about making sure you have a healthy body in and out. That includes your lymphatic system, which is responsible for cleansing the body of toxins.

The lymphatic system includes – you got it – lymph nodes (which we’ve got hundreds of!), the spleen, the thymus, and tonsils. Ever thought of them when reading up on self-care? Probably not – but you’re not alone. Now is as good a time as any to say hello to your lymphatic system and make sure it gets the attention it needs. If your lymphatic system is askew, then the chances are you’re making yourself prone to illness. And that’s the last thing we want right now. Especially with the virus still not contained.

What do you need to do to take care of your lymphatic system?

It’s really simple – eat and live healthily. AND try this method called dry brushing.

For the initiated like me, dry brushing is rubbing the body gently with a natural bristle brush – much like what equestrians use lovingly on their horses. This is usually done before showering or taking a bath.

You might want to know that dry brushing has been around since ancient times, when it was a regular pre-bath ritual. Today, beauty influencers are touting it as the best way to exfoliate and even remove cellulite.

At the end of the day, however, dry brushing will give your body what it needs at the cellular level – a toxin-free system.

Spa Manager Lem Senillo of The Farm At San Benito, a holistic wellness center, demonstrates how to do dry brushing for lymphatic clearing. In his video, he explains that you can use a natural loofah scrub instead of a bristled brush. He then demonstrates exactly how to do dry brushing and what it does for you.

And guess what? It’s supposed to give you the same health benefits as an hour of exercise!

I have to say – merely watching the video got me all relaxed. So, I will probably be finding myself a brush or loofah and pick up dry brushing as a habit.
