The best drinks for the long workday

When we are looking at the best drinks for work we need to look at why they are good for us. What are they helping us to achieve?

Our goals for our diet at work should be;

- health
- alertness
- weight management
- energy
- de-stress

With that in mind here are the best drinks you can drink at work.

1. Green tea
Green tea is my favorite work drink because it has such a wide variety of benefits. On one hand it is good for staying awake and on the other hand it is full of anti-oxidants. Recent studies have shown that green tea drinkers are almost 60 times less likely to get cancer. This is massive and a good reason to take up green tea.

I try to drink green teas that are made in India, Japan or China. They are grown well and they usually support a very poor local industry. This is also where the leaves have been best grown for thousands of years and as such they do it very well.

2. Water
Water is the foundation of life. Your body is mostly made up of water and drinking it helps you replenish fluids that you have lost through exercise or poisoned with stress and bad food. Try to drink water all throughout the day in little bits so that you can continually flush out all the toxins that you build up at work.

If you are trying to lose weight it is good to drink ice water. It speeds up your metabolism and will help you burn more calories while you are working.

If you are trying to improve your health it is a good idea to drink plain boiling water. His Holiness the Dalai Lama says that this is one of the best health habits to develop as it is very good for your internal energies and organs.

3. Gatorade
Sometimes we get headaches at work because we are dehydrated. Similarly, a lot of our fatigue comes from not drinking enough. In times like these it is a good idea to drink some Gatorade. Gatorade has been scientifically studied for over 40 years and those studies have shown that Gatorade hydrates you faster than any other sports drink. On a really hot day it would be good to down a Gatorade to get yourself back on the hydration track.

4. Protein Shakes
A protein shake is a perfect work drink because it has a whole lot of nutrients, energy and vitamins in it. It will keep you going long into the night if you need to and it is excellent for weight loss.

If you make a homemade protein shake you should include foods like eggs, raw goats milk, honey, whey protein powder, water and crushed ice. It is well worth the effort.

Final say on the best work drinks

Forget coffee. Forget Coke. These four drinks will keep you healthy and alert while you are at work.

What else do you drink at work?

Actually, I occasionally drink a cup of coffee before a power nap. The warm liquid helps me drift off and the caffeine hits just about the time I need to wake up from the nap.

I totally live on this … with one exception. Water is tough for me, so I always a little lemon or green tea mix. Puts a little taste in it and it’s refreshing. The green tea adds some more kick too.

After quitting my old job I ditched coffee and now drink green tea daily. Took about a month for me to really kick coffee and I now only drink it about once every 2-3 weeks. I feel much better, am sleeping much better and my back pocket is benefiting too.
